We, at Mera Pharmaceuticals are excited about the potential human health benefits of astaxanthin. At the same time, offering a safe product has been among our primary objectives in commercializing AstaFactor®.

In addition to the review of publicly available scientific information, we carried out our own safety trials on our natural astaxanthin.

Mera Pharmaceuticals scientists conducted a 29-day safety study with 33 volunteers taking astaxanthin. Some volunteers took doses up to 4 times higher than the recommended daily serving for AstaFactor®.

Additionally, a thorough animal safety study with Mera Pharmaceuticals' product was conducted.

Based on the results of these safety trials, Mera Pharmaceuticals has concluded that a supplement produced with Mera Pharmaceuticals' proprietary technology, containing a daily dose of up to 20 mg of astaxanthin is safe for human consumption.

These findings are summarized in a separate technical report. In addition to these safety studies, quality measures and checks are taken routinely throughout the manufacturing process to ensure the product's quality and safety.

The recommended daily dose for AstaFactor® Rejuvenating Formula corresponds to 5 mg astaxanthin per day and the AstaFactor® Sports Formula corresponds to 10 mg astaxanthin per day, supplied in two small softgels. This allows individuals to fractionate their daily intake if they choose.

Consumers taking this supplement should consult with their physician. A review of current diet, intake of other supplements, and medications should be conducted. We recommend that you not exceed the suggested daily serving.

Note: Because astaxanthin is a powerful pigmenting agent, even small quantities of algal meal can create a strong red-orange coloration. During the human safety studies, some volunteers observed a slight reddening of the stool, a harmless condition. This coloration probably results from small quantities of astaxanthin being passed by the digestive tract.
